Global Anti-Indian Hate: What Is Happening Online?

An independent 16-month investigation into online hate, recommendation systems, misinformation, harassment, and hostile narratives targeting Indians.

Over the past 1 year, many people have noticed a sharp increase in anti-Indian content across social media. Some believe it is simply a reflection of public opinion. Others believe recommendation systems, misinformation, and coordinated online activity may be amplifying hostility far beyond isolated incidents. Until now, there has been little publicly available documentation examining these patterns over an extended period.

Between March 2025 and June 2026, I conducted an independent investigation into anti-Indian hate content observed across selected social media platforms. The investigation involved long-term observation, test accounts, screenshots, screen recordings, archived posts, comment analysis, interviews, and the preservation of supporting evidence.

The findings document recurring recommendation patterns, misinformation, dehumanising narratives, racial abuse, threats, calls for violence, and the increasing visibility of hostile content encountered within online environments. They also raise important questions about youth exposure, social cohesion, and the potential role of recommendation systems in reinforcing hate-based content.

This website makes the complete investigation publicly available so that researchers, journalists, policymakers, educators, community organisations, and members of the public can examine the findings for themselves.

The report does not attempt to assign responsibility to any particular platform, organisation, or individual. Its purpose is to document what was observed, preserve the evidence, and encourage further independent examination of an issue that may have significant implications for Australia’s multicultural society and online public discourse.

If this issue continues to grow without careful examination, the consequences may extend well beyond online platforms. Understanding what is happening is the first step towards addressing it.
